Big and Little: Bible Picture ABC Book

I think my addiction to making miniature books is pretty well documented at this point.

On a suggestion from a friend, I decided I should try to make a miniature Bible.

I couldn't find one that I thought would lend itself well to being a miniature (yet, I'm still looking), and instead I stumbled across this beautiful "Bible Picture ABC Book" that my father had as a child.

I did change the back a little bit (I dunno, like having stuff on the back of my books. The original is just blank blue.)  But this tiny book was actually made from the real book my father had.

Tah-dah! Dad's original book next to my tiny version.

I'll be honest, it took some time and patience to cleanup some of the "decorating" dad and his little sisters did to this beautiful, vintage book (Originally published in 1934!)

But the pictures were so beautiful, I think it was worth the effort. And it was a wonderful addition to my dollhouse bookshelf.

I love making big things into miniature, and I'm so happy I stumbled across this book!

Thanks, Dad!

Make Your Own Books

One of our friends on Facebook shared this link a while back -

http://www.thetoymaker.com/Toypages2/101TinyBooks/101TinyBooks.html

It's the instructions and printies to make picture books, and they're way cute!

We made these two.

You use origami paper (or whatever kind of decorative paper you have handy) for the covers, and then the pictures are cut outs from her book pages.

They went together really easily.

And the pictures are really cute.

So, if you suddenly have an urge to make your own picture books, you should check out that link.

I am pretty addicted to making books, so I should warn you... BOOK MAKING CAN BE ADDICTIVE!!! Just so you know. :) Let me know if you try making these, though! I would love to hear how they come out and what you thought of book making! :)

New Books in the Shop!! And one of the weirdest....

So, even though I'm thinking I may be done with miniatures, I cannot seem to stop making books.

Guess that means I'd better keep my book store/coffee shop, so I have somewhere to put them. Right? :)

Anyway, I made a bunch of new books and they're available for sale in the Midnight in the Dollhouse Etsy shop. Including the weirdest title I think I've ever come up with....

"The Surprising Beauty of Manhole Covers of the WORLD".

Well, some of them ARE quite pretty. *shrug*

I dunno. It just seemed like a book that my book shop needed. Maybe I need to do more "coffee table" books.

There's also a three volume set of Mother Goose rhymes that I think are just about the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen. They were illustrated by a guy named Frederick Richardson, and his artwork is just beautiful.

So pretty!

There's also a three volume set of riddles. Well, specific riddles. It is "The Book of One Hundred Riddles of the Fairy Bellaria" and they are so fun.

An arrogant and cruel King gets into a riddle duel with a beautiful, and clever fairy Queen. A duel to the death!

Anyway, if I ever have a shrinking accident, I am going to have plenty of stuff to read, which is GREAT!

Now if I can just figure out how to shrink down the coffee maker and microwave, I'll be set! :)
