The Buttercup Pt 1 - And Now For Something Completely Different

I gave away the FAO Schwarz house to a great home. David & I talked a lot about it and I realized it was going to take so much work, and the near destruction of the house itself, to make it what I wanted, that it was probably better to let it go and find something closer to my vision for that idea.

Before jumping into the big projects in front of me, like the Joseph Angel and the 1:6 scale house (and possibly a custom finishing job for a customer), I wanted some dollhouse practice. Something to get my feet wet again before jumping right in. Or something like that.

So, I got myself a Greenleaf Buttercup.

Normally, I am not a fan of these kits. The wood is cheap and thin and normally a little warped.

But for my purposes this time around, it's PERFECT! It's so little, and so CUTE!

Lots of wood glue.

And masking tape.

I think it's going to be adorable. I've been wanting to paperclay something, and I think this little house will really lend itself to paperclay.

So... my current project: The Buttercup.

I have some big plans for this little house (not only do I need to practice my paperclay, but I want to practice parquet floors too). I guess we'll see how it goes. :)

Wish me luck!

- Wendy

  1. Ooooohhh... *squeal* !!! I LOVE it when people go wild over new little kit projects! And besides... I am still working on my "adaptation" of a Buttercup... AKA "The Cloud Palace" ... so I am thrilled to see what you will be making with it! :) And I completely agree with your decision to give away the FAO Schwartz house... I always am daunted by the idea of seriously changing old dollhouses.... renovations can get out of hand fast! Much better to start from scratch!

  2. What fun! Can't wait to see your paperclay and parquet!

  3. This kit IS Adorable, and I can hardly wait to see which direction you take it in! :D

p.s. I am excited that you plan on introducing Paper clay to this project and I will be eagerly anticipating seeing that procedure also :D

  4. You're off to such a fast start! It is amazing how the meant to be things propel us forward. I've got my popcorn and Milk Duds - can't wait for the next chapter!

  5. these kits are perfect for paperclay and wood veneers. I used to love to do that type of thing.
What 1:6 scale house are you doing? You MUST blog about this one as you know I'm the 1:6 scale geek. One thing I've always wanted to do is convert a 1:12 kit into a 1:6 room scene or setting, just never got around to it. For one, you need space. It's on my bucket project list though. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this. I have my own paperclay projects going on right now too.

  6. Hello Wendy,
Great assembly job. I can't wait to see more.
    Big hug

  7. This is going to be good. I can't wait to see your paperclay creation.
Greenleaf houses are perfect for kit bashing. Have fun!
