Go Small or Go Home!

I had a really important realization the other night:  My books may be just a little too big.

Well, the 1:12 scale ones I've been making are.  They measure about 1" tall, which would be 1 foot in the real world. And that's a pretty big book.

That size works really well for the BJDs...

But not so great for the actual dollhouse dolls. So....

I shrunk down my books to another, slightly smaller size.

They are a little trickier to make, just because anything is harder to make smaller.  But I think they look amazing!

But I don't want to get rid of the BJD sized 1:12 scale books either.

So I'll just have to make three sizes.

I'm excited to add a second size to C&M Books and Coffee too. Books come in different sizes, and in a used book store, I think there should be a couple different sizes at least.

So that was my big realization. I need to make a LOT more books, in a much smaller size.

Because dolls of all sizes need good reading material!

  1. Those books look great and yes definitely need different sizes. 😊

    1. Thanks, Serenata! And I think so too. :) Maybe they'll form a book club now that everyone has their own size books. :) Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  2. I think catering to a diverse wide range of collectors will improve your customer base, especially if you put the measurements in your listings. Doll collectors are notorious for not necessarily understanding miniature scale differences, only that they like it because it looks so 'cute' with their doll. Ran into that when selling furniture.

    1. Hey Lisa! Indeed. Though it's mostly that I wanted different sizes for my own dolls. :) Scale can be a twisty road to follow, especially since some companies kind of throw scale to the wind and THEY go for (but isn't it cute?! I'm thinking ReMent here.) Anyway, we'll see what happens. No one ever made a fortune selling miniatures (especially ones THEY make), so if I sell enough books to keep C&M in ink and books then I'm happy. :) Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  3. Beautiful Work! I love the variety of sizes of your book collection! Not every book has to be the same size but it is always nice to have a choice. :D

    1. Hey Elizabeth! Thank you! I think variety is pretty important when it comes to books. This all hit me as I was looking around that the full size (real) books on my bookshelves. They AREN'T all the same size, and I figure giving people three sizes to choose from will let them determine the look of their own libraries/book shelves. :) Some pictures books will look better bigger. Some print books will look better smaller. It's all about options, I think. :)

Thank you for stopping by and commenting! You rock.
