I Am a Dollhouse Magnet

So another house kind of accidentally followed me home. A strange, gorgeous little house.

The owner photos didn't look like much. But I thought it was cute.

The little house reminded me of the chunky construction of some of the houses at Tiny Town, which I love. So I was drawn to it, and thought that must be why.

The scale of the door and porch is off, but I still think it's super cute.

From the side, a LOT like a "Tiny Town" building, I think.

I was not prepared for how interesting the inside was. You couldn't really tell from the owner photos.

And the outside is cuter than I thought too. Even if I'm not sure what to do about that missing roof panel.

I am in love with the rafters.

My friends think this may have been a college assignment for a design or architecture class maybe. I don't think I'll ever get to really know what the story behind this house is. But I wish I did.

I think that if you didn't know this was a dollhouse, this picture might make you might think this was a real house!

The floors are rough, but I think that makes them extra charming.

The lady who had it before had gotten it at a church yard sale for her two young daughters. But, to be honest, I don't think this house is safe for kids.

See those little black things? Those are nails. Every piece of siding and shingle is nailed on, and the sharp, little black nails, all come through the back side.

But I am an adult, crazy in love with the framing of this dormer, and I am going to play (safely) with my little palace of tetanus. :)

However, before I play with the inside, there's work to be done to the outside for sure.

The doorway is a weird size, but I don't mind. It fits the pixies and that's all that matters to me.

It could definitely use some paint, some steps up to the porch (that is one HIGH foundation).

But the main structure is solid and sound, and I have some ideas for what kind of place this could be. So... we'll just have to see what this strange little house becomes.

I am so glad it followed me home.

I am a dollhouse magnet, and I love it. :)

  1. Wow, what a fabulous little house. I can't get over the detailing in the attic. It really does look like a real home interior! Looking forward to seeing what you are able to create with this. :)

  2. I agree! It looks like the framing in a real house, waiting for some kind of drywall on the walls. It sounds like it has at least one story behind it. Even if it won't tell you where it is from, there is a world of possibility for where it is going!

  3. Absolutely fascinating and wonderful house - so beautifully made with all the rafters etc...even if it is a little bit of tetanus heaven for the unwary!

  4. How Marvelous! I love the exposed studs and joists! I don't blame you for gathering this little beauty under your wings!

  5. Wow! What a Fantastic little building!! It really looks like a builder's model to me... with all the framework and trim done just as it would be in a RL house... but a little off in scale as that would not need to be accurate in this case! I love the "craftsman" style of the porch and the cozy cottage feel of the place! Not to mention the Blue... the color blue is so beautiful! I would not want to alter it at all! Maybe making some removable "matboard" walls and flooring if you really felt the need to decorate... but nothing permanent! what a unique little place! The Pixies must be "pulling strings" in the magic world to get such a cool house! ;)
